Snow Queen

Sophie Carroll of Melrose, the Snow Queen, takes a look at her tutu during Melrose Youth Ballet's rehearsal on Nov. 19 at Corinthian Hall for 'The Nutcracker.' The MYB production this year features nearly 150 dancers, including 58 from Melrose.

Last Saturday my first assignment was to photograph dancers rehearsing for the Nutcracker. I shot this as I was leaving the hall. When I walked in the place I saw this hall of mirrors, I knew somehow I wanted to make a photograph but the director greeted me almost immediately and ushered me into the next room. On my way out I asked to use the ladies room and as I stepped out i saw this "Snow Queen" checking out her new tutu. I got two shots off before she noticed me.
